CONSTRUCTION GENERALIST

    THE POSITION

    We are looking for a full-time, quality-focused team player to work as a Construction Generalist in Interport’s dedicated container modification facility. The Construction Generalist will be responsible for measuring, cutting, and assembling the framing lumber needed to build the interiors of shipping containers per customer specifications as directed by the Modification Shop Manager. The Construction Generalist position also requires the ability to perform basic electrical work.

    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and sketches to fully grasp requirements
    • Able to build window frames, doors, closets, counters, shelves, cabinets, windows, wall panels and other related carpentry items by using raw materials and/or pre-constructed items
    • Accurately take measurements and calculate the size and amount of materials and supplies needed for a project
    • Provide basic electrical work to include pulling of wire, mounting switches and outlets, and installation of lighting
    • Inspect work and perform repairs, as necessary
    • Ensure shop maintenance and cleaning as required
    • Perform quality work, individually and as a team member, with and without direct supervision
    • Comply with company policies and procedures
    • Participate in and adhere to Interport’s safety and compliance programs
    • Perform other duties from time to time, as required

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) credential
    • Minimum two years’ experience working as a carpenter
    • Strong working knowledge of carpentry techniques and methods, including installation and construction
    • Hands-on experience working with carpentry materials including the ability to use hand and power tools
    • Ability to accurately read blueprints and have basic mathematical skills
    • Basic electrical skills including installation of switching devices, cables, tubing, and conduits
    • Availability to work weekdays between the hours of 7:00am and midnight, on either a morning or afternoon shift (7am-3:30pm or 3:30pm – midnight), with occasional overtime hours including weekends
    • Ability to lift 75 pounds and sit, stand, or walk for extended period
    • Ability to commute to Interport’s location in Newark, NJ

    Employment is subject to the completion of due-diligence inquiries, including a background check and a pre-employment medical examination including a drug and alcohol screen, which will take place after a conditional offer is made.

    PREFERRED/PLUS

    • Experience working in container modification, metalworking, or equivalent field
    • Fluency in English and Spanish languages
